General Characteristics

Like the female group, the males are almost entirely Caucasian, and of U. S. citizenship. Birth or rearing was scattered among 36 states and 4 foreign countries nearly as large a spread as occurred in the larger female group.

The male group, like the female, comes from a largely urban background, though more of the men (30%) than of the women (24%) claimed a purely rural upbringing.

The male group is somewhat older; median age for the men is 35 years, compared to the women's median of 32. Persons over 40 years of age accounted for almost a third of the men; this age group was twice as important among the men as among the women. The men's ages ranged from 18 to 66 years slightly greater than the women's range.
